Welcome to the Mash Staffing monthly newsletter!
You are seeing this email as a valued client (thank you for your ongoing support!). The aim for this newsletter is to provide you with something valuable/insightful that will be of use when planning your future events and activations and considering how best to engage your staff. So here goes...
A big focus for Mash Staffing this year has been on staff engagement, as we look to get the very best from the people who represent us and our clients.
We have found success in three key areas:
Leadership
- according to Gallup's latest meta-analysis (the most comprehensive study on the employee experience) 70% of the variance in employee engagement is linked to management quality (learn more here...https://lnkd.in/gtArztaM). At Mash, we have been focusing on providing more structure and training for our Team Leaders, to provide a more consistent and engaging experience for our event staff, enabling them to be best versions of themselves, more often.
Communication & culture
- through Slack and WhatsApp we have connected our teams much earlier in the process and have used video updates, rather than text and email, to explain feedback, refocus activation brief's, and to acknowledge and troubleshoot challenges that our staff are working through onsite. Bringing the staff together earlier and making ourselves more visible to our teams has had a significant impact on employee morale and engagement.
Team structure
- we have seen greater success on projects where we train a broader, more diverse pool of staff, enabling us to cap staff members shifts at 4 per week, keeping people fresh whilst also reducing the opportunity for complacency and disengagement.
Engagement and Leadership will continue to be a huge focus for us moving into 2025 and we look forward to sharing more strategies that are working well for our teams.
What's coming up
Quarterly Overview
Q4 (October - December) is always the busiest quarter for Mash as we move from spring to summer events and the holiday season. December is looking extremely busy again so please do get your briefs in as early as possible for the holiday season.
Australian Open Staffing
The Australian Open continues to grow and this year, according to Tennis Australia, will see a record number of staff working in and around the event. The AO runs from Sunday 12th to Sunday 26th January, with most of the training taking place week commencing the 6th January. Please bear in mind that all the top staff in Melbourne are booked for this 3 week period which will significantly impact staff availability during that time.
Activation Measurement
Last but not least, if you're looking for support with activation measurement check out the team at LiveGauge who offer innovative solutions to capture key metrics for your activations. I know that many of you are already using similar technology to capture footfall and activation reach but what excites me most about this company is the product they are planning to launch in 2025 which will enable them to capture all conversations that happen at an activation and provide insights around consumer sentiment and purchase intent.
That's it from us this month! Hopefully you have found this newsletter useful/interesting. If you have any feedback or want to chat about upcoming events, conferences or activations please drop us an email.
Many thanks,
Neil
